William Reedy

ATTORNEY AT LAW

Biography

I was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Illinois, where I grew up, in 1975.

My first employment was as an assistant state’s attorney for Winnebago County, in Rockford, Illinois.  There I was the chief juvenile court prosecutor for approximately four years, and was then offered a position in a private law firm, that became Vellan and Reedy, in Rockford, Illinois.  The majority work of our office was criminal defense cases, although I, more than my partner, did handle domestic law cases, and other types of general civil litigation.

In 1983, I moved to the great State of Tennessee and first took a staff position in the Hamilton county (Chattanooga), Tennessee Juvenile Court system, and soon thereafter was hired by a newly elected District Attorney General based in Athens, TN, (midway between Chattanooga and Knoxville) and assumed the responsibility for prosecuting all criminal cases for two separate adjoining counties of McMinn County, and Monroe County, Tennessee.  This included all prosecutions from petty misdemeanors to capital murder.

In approximately 1990, I joined a local law office in general private practice that became Reid and Reedy Attorneys, in Athens, Tennessee for another tenure of approximately six years, until the District Attorney General made me an offer to return to the ranks of felony prosecution, which I did in 1996.

Attorney Amy Reedy who became my wife and present law partner, was then in the same District Attorney General’s office until 2004, when she joined the staff of the Public Defender’s office in the same district.  Then, in February, 2006, she was appointed by then Governor, the Honorable Philip Bredesen, to serve out the term of the retiring Criminal Court Judge, Steven Bebb. As that Judgeship created a continuing conflict of interest for me to practice before her, (because I was now back in private practice, with mostly criminal defense cases), I was offered the position of Chief Assistant District Attorney General, for the neighboring Ninth Judicial District, by their newly elected District Attorney General.

After serving her eight year term as Criminal Court Judge, we formed our current practice of law centered in Cleveland, Tennessee, as the Reedy Law Office, serving Bradley and the surrounding counties.
